Ask GoI to reconsider their decision.
Terming the authorization to procure more 4,949 pellet guns to Valley by the Union Home Ministry as ‘unfortunate and disappointing’, the opposition political parties on Saturday said that such decisions would further alienate the people of Kashmir with the government.
The opposition political parties including Congress, NC and others lashed out at the Government of India (GoI) over their contrary statements.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, G A Mir said that the decision taken by the GoI would further alienate the people of Kashmir with the state government. “We have been continuously demanding ban on the lethal weapon that created havoc in the Valley but it is unfortunate that instead of banning the weapon, the home ministry is sending more such weapons to the Valley,” he said.
He said that the both the central and the state government is trying to the muzzle the voices of people on might, which is unfortunate. “The Union Home Ministry must reconsider their decision to prevent further damage in the Valley,” he said.
The National Conference (NC) General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar told that the GoI is trying to muzzle the voice of Kashmir with might, which only can deteriorate the situation here.
Sagar said that GoI has failed to win the hearts of Kashmiris as they continued with the anti-people policies. “Polices adopted by the GoI can deteriorate the situation in the Valley. Almost all the opposition political parties including NC approached to the Home Minister and urged him to ban the pellet guns but unfortunately the assurances given by the Rajnath Singh proved futile on the ground,” he said, adding that such decisions are bound to alienate the people of Kashmir from the present dispensation.
“The state government is acting as mute spectator over the issue. The silence maintained by the current regime clearly exposes that JK is directly being run by New Delhi,” he said.
CPI (M) senior leader and MAL Kulgam, Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami termed the decision as ‘unfortunate’ and said that the authority’s right from Delhi to Srinagar don’t understand the havoc pellet guns have created. “Besides physical damage, the use of pellet guns has damaged the psychological makeup of the people,” he said.
Tarigami told that the authorities must reconsider their decision and must ban the fatal weapon. “I don’t understand what they want to achieve with such decisions. It is unfortunate that they are giving contrary statements. They should have focused on increasing the confidence level of the people instead of demoralizing them,” he said. (KNS)
