A civilian was killed and four other persons including two paramilitary CRPF men were injured in a grenade attack in south Kashmir’s Puwama Town on Friday.
According to an official, suspected militants hurled a grenade towards a party of CRPF in Murran Chowk of Pulwama Town this afternoon but it missed its intended target and exploded with a big bang, resulting in splinter injuries to five people including three civilians and two CRPF men.
All the injured were rushed to nearby hospital where one civilian Muhammad Ayoub resident of Gusoo, Pulwama succumbed to his injuries. One of the injured CRPF men has been identified as Dalbir Singh and he along with others are undergoing treatment. Soon after the blast, panic gripped entire Pulwama Town and some shopkeepers downed their shutters.
The youths soon after the grenade blast resorted to heavy stone-pelting on CRPF and police parties and the stone-pelting continued for almost an hour. Meanwhile, a huge number of mourners attended the funeral of slain civilian at his ancestral village and staged pro-freedom protests. They blamed CRPF for the death of Ayoub, a charge denied by government forces including CRPF.

CM condemns killing of civilian in Pulwama grenade attack
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the killing of a civilian in a grenade attack at Murran Chowk, Pulwama today.
The Chief Minister said killings and violence have done no good to societies but have only added up the miseries and wounds of people leaving behind a trail of tragedies.
Mehbooba Mufti has also sympathized with the injured in the blast and prayed for their speedy recovery.
