Daily business activities hit.
Clashes erupted in Pulwama today between young boys and security forces following the reported arrest of a local shopkeeper in the town by police. The entire town came to a standstill due to the trouble and it halted all the business activities of the day.
On Saturday when the people were resuming their business in the town, youth pelted stones on police and CRPF when the former gathered to protest against the arrest of a shopkeeper of Dangerpora, who police accuses of stone pelting. Forces lobbed some teargas canisters to quell the stone pelting youth.
The clashes first erupted in Murran Chowk in the town and then spread to whole town, bringing all activities to a halt. The clashes continued for the day.
Locals in the town said that forces in anger smashed glass panes of residential houses during the clashes. They also said that the youth pickup by police is “innocent”.
A police official said that some youth in the town are creating trouble in the town and provoking others for protests and stone pelting. “In the connection, a stone pelter was arrested by police. But the youth resorted to violence and we had to deploy more men and use few teargas canisters to disperse the youth,” the police official said, adding, that security forces didn’t pelt stones on the houses.
Locals said that police picked up four youth from other areas who had come to the town for studies. (KNS)
