Vehicles stranded as highway remain closed for 2nd day
As the Valley continued to receive intermittent rains, the weatherman on Tuesday predicted more rains or snow across the valley over the next 24 hours.
According to the official in the Meteorological department (MeT), “There is possibility of light to moderate rains or snow across the Valley in the next 24 hours.”
He informed that the weather would mostly remain cloudy during the next 24 hours.
“The weather would likely improve from the Wednesday afternoon,” the MeT official informed.
Meanwhile, scores of vehicles and passengers remained stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu highway as the only road connecting valley with the rest of the country remained closed for the second consecutive day today.
The highway was closed by the authorities following the slippery conditions of roads.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City Srinagar, Sargun Shukla told that, “Following the slippery condition of the roads, the highway has been closed from the either sides.”
She said that the work for the clearance of roads is currently ongoing. “Hope the road will be cleared till late evening and will be thrown open soon,” she added.
Shukla told that the vehicles were stopped at some places, which are currently stranded on the roads. “The stranded vehicles will be first allowed to ply towards their destinations,” she added. (KNS)
