In order to provide free legal services, facilitate amicable settlement of various disputes and reduce pendency of cases in courts, National Lok Adalats were held today in various districts of Kashmir Division.
In Srinagar, High Court Legal Services Committee Srinagar today organized a National Lok Adalat which was inaugurated by Special Judge Anti-Corruption (CBI) Srinagar Justice Y.P. Kotwal and Registrar (Judicial) Mohammad Yusuf Wani.
As many as 113 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat out of which 10 cases were settled amicably. A compensation amount of Rs 70 lakh was awarded in Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) and insurance claims. Besides, an amount of Rs 6 lakh was recovered in bank recovery pre litigation cases.
District Legal Services Authority Srinagar also organized a Lok Adalat today under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge Rasheed Ali Dar. As many as 446 cases of different natures were taken up during the Lok Adalat out of which 250 cases were settled amicably.
An amount of Rs 15, 43,878 was recovered in bank cases as settlement amount, Rs 57,100 as fine in various challans and Rs 52, 99,000 was awarded as compensation in various motor accidental claims.
In Anantnag, a National Lok Adalat was organized by District Legal Services Authority under the chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge Anantnag Mohammad Ashraf Malik. Similar Lok Adalats were held at subordinate courts of Dooru, Vailoo, Shangus, Ashmuqam and Bijbehara of the district.
During the Lok Adalat 153 cases out of 279 listed cases relating to bank matters, recovery suits, electricity cases, traffic challans and matrimonial cases were settled amicably. An amount of Rs 45.80 lakh was awarded in six MACT cases, while as settlement amount of Rs 55.33 lakh was recovered in all cases taken up during the Lok Adalat in the district.
In Budgam, National Lok Adalats were held in District Court Budgam and its subordinate courts today under the chairmanship of Principle District & Sessions Judge Budgam. About 450 cases were taken up for disposal in the said Lok Adalats, wherein a number of cases were settled by mutual reconciliation between the differing parties.
In Bandipora, 646 cases of different natures were settled amicably during a National Lok Adalat held under the supervision of chairman DLSA Bandipora S. K. Bhagat.
A settlement amount of Rs 66, 96, 623 was also awarded in the said Lok Adalat.
