For third consecutive day Kashmir remains cut off with rest of world. Air and road connectivity is halted, due to heavy snowfall across the Kashmir region, main roads within valley remained snow covered, in north and central Kashmir electric supply lines are damaged.
The Srinagar-Jammu road has been closed and Air-traffic remained suspended from last three days, the passengers in Jammu and Kashmir are stranded.
The closure of highway led to shortage of essential supplies in valley markets. However the officials assured that that ‘there is adequate stock of essential supplies stored in valley’.
According to the Traffic control room Srinagar, the road has been closed due to heavy snowfall and land sliding. They said “Any decision about road opening will be conditioned to weather,” Traffic Officials said.
The Air-traffic remained suspended due to the poor visibility and snowfall, Airport officials said, “All flights were cancelled due to poor visibility”.
People from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora, Sopore and Kupwara complained that in their respective areas there is no electricity from last three days.
Talking with KNS, Chief Engineer Power Development Department, Shahnaz Goni, said that with heavy snowfall, the lines and transformers got damaged, and will take some time to repair them.
She said currently more than 300-transformers got damaged and supply lines have fallen, results disruption in electricity.
“And all men, machinery are on work and we are trying hard to repair the damages, so that all areas get power supply,” CE PDD Shahnaz Goni.
Snow storm has damaged residential houses at various places in Kashmir, a residential house collapsed in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
An official said that the house of Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Panzlah village was damaged due to heavy snowfall.
Heavy snowfall has caused avalanches and took many lives so far, damaged property. Many trees had fallen and roads are submerged.

The divisional administration of Kashmir issued avalanche warning on Wednesday, for higher areas of Kashmir valley, district headquarters have asked to take all precautionary measures for the safety of people.All the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir have setup control rooms and asked people to contact in need.
The avalanche warning was issued for higher reaches and avalanche-prone areas of Kashmir from January 24 toJanuary 28, 2017.
Locals of Sonamarg, Ganderbal, Gurez, Bandipora, Uri, Keran, Karnah, Machil, Tangdhar, Budnamal, Jumgund Nowgam, Kumkadi, higher reaches of Kralpora and other sloppy areas of the valley have been asked to take necessary precaution while moving outside their homes and refrain from venturing outside during the night hours for their own safety.

Kashmir University postpones all exams upto Jan 29
In view of heavy snowfall in Kashmir areas and consequent concerns expressed by students vis-à-vis reaching the examination centers, all Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held upto (and including) January 29, 2017 (Sunday) are postponed. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations will be notified separately, later.
“It may please be noted that all examinations scheduled to be held from January 30, 2017 (Monday) onwards will be held as per the already-notified date-sheets. Candidates are also advised not to pay any heed to rumors with regard to postponement of examinations and always rely on official announcement in this regard,” PROKU said. (KNS)
