68th Republic Day celebrated at Kishtwar.
The 68th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor and great enthusiasm at Kishtwar.
The main function was organized at DC office complex where Minster of State for Transport, Revenue, Rural Development, PWD (R&B), YSS, Sunil Sharma hoisted the national flag and took salute of the march past by the contingents drawn from JKP, CRPF, IRP, FPF, NCC and school children.
DDC Kishtwar G N Balwan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Kishori Lal, Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Sandeep Wazir, district officers, prominent citizens, general public and school children attended the function.
Greeting the people on the occasion, Sunil Sharma paid homage to the great leaders who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. “We must also pay rich tributes to the founding fathers of the Constitution of India who set for us the goals of nationhood,” he added.
Sharma urged the people to remain vigilant against the anti-peace elements who, he said, are bent upon disturbing peaceful atmosphere of the region. He said peace and prosperity is imperative for development and growth of the region.
The minister highlighted developmental projects taken up by the government in district Kishtwar. He said number of power projects have been taken up in the district out of which Kiru-Kawar and Pakal-Dul are nearing completion which will play an important role in uplift of the people of area.
Referring to the road connectivity, Sharma said out of the PM’s Development Package of Rs 80000 crore, funds have been earmarked for construction of Kishtwar-Sudhmahadev road which will serve as an all time weather road for this region.
Regarding augmentation of drinking water in the area, the minister said that twin projects of Naigad Multipurpose Scheme and Canal Cluster Project at Galigarh with an estimated cost of Rs 233 crore and Rs 17.86 crore respectively will serve as an ample source of water for drinking and irrigation purpose and will end the water scarcity in the region.
He said work on the Air Strip, the lifeline of the Kishtwar, shall start soon and will change the scenario of the district.
Similar functions were also held at all the sub divisions and Tehsils of the District where respective SDMs and Tehsildars unfurled the national flag.
