12 people, including 10 army men were killed on Thursday, in different snow related incidents in Kashmir.
According to the Army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia, An avalanche struck an army camp in Gurez Sector of J&K on 25 Jan, in which 10 Army Jawans of 51 RR died in Tulail area of Bandipora.
In Bandipora an Army camp of 51 RR located at Manzgund Neeru in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tulail came under snow avalanche, resulting in death of 10 Army men. Rescue operation is going on.
He said, “Rescue operations were immediately launched in extreme bad weather and heavy snow fall. 10 bodies have been recovered so far”.
He said that, in another avalanche in the same area yesterday, one Army patrol moving towards the post went missing. The area continues to receive heavy snow fall. Braving inhospitable weather conditions, coordinated rescue operations are in progress in which three bodies could be recovered so far. Search operations continue.
Two civilians electrocuted:
Two people electrocuted at separate places in Kashmir. An 11-year-old girl, Amina Javid daughter of Javid Ahmad Mir resident of Bandipora dies after a live electric line fell on her on Wednesday, when she was towards local madrasa (School) to attend class.
Another man, Ali Mohammad Nadaf, dies in Palhalan area of Pattan in north Kashmirs Baramulla district. Officials said that He was electrocuted while starting the electric generator.
Meanwhile the divisional administration of Kashmir, has appealed people not to worry and take safety measures. The District headquarters have asked to take all precautionary measures for the safety of people.
Moreover, 29 structures were damaged due to heavy snowfall in Budgam and Ganderbal.
In Budgam 28 structures including 12 residential houses, 03 shops and Imambada were damaged due to heavy snow fall. In Ganderbal a residential house belonging to Ghulam Mohammad Najar son of Ali Mohammad Najar resident of Akhal in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kangan got damaged due to snow fall. (KNS)
