A police party shot and injured an old couple in Tral after arresting their son instead of their second son, who heads the Jama’at-e-Islami at district level.
The incident happened during night at Kamla, village of volatile Tral area.
Local sources said that a police party comprising mostly of STF personnel raided the house of 80 years old Abdul Qayoom at Kamla.
Police were in search of his son, Shabir Ahmad Fallahi, a well known religious figure of district Pulwama who is the district president (Amir-e-Zilla) of Jama’at-e-Islami.
Sources said that Shabir was not at his residence so police arrested his brother, Noor Mohammad however, his old parents resisted.
As Qayoom and his wife tried to stop the police party from arresting Noor, STF personnel opened fire on the old couple leaving both of them injured.
Sources said that Qayoom has been shifted to SMHS in critical condition however his wife is being treated at Tral hospital.
