The residents of Druroo village in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir have failed to come to terms more than a week after forces killed a youth and carried out raids in the village over next few days.
“The whole population is thunderstruck after the forces killed a youth and carried out raids in which property was destroyed and the villagers thrashed,” said a resident who didn’t want to be named for fear of reprisals.
“Windows of houses and Masjid were broken. Teargas shells landed inside the Masjid,” he recounted.
Another villager said that the room of the prayer leader was also ransacked by the forces.
“They stole gold worth Rs one lac and they peed on the utensils,” he alleged.
A village elder said that there was a fear psychosis in the village since August 12 when several youths were beaten up and many others arrested by the forces.
