The Technical Education Department today said that the admission for new batches of Polytechnics could not be completed in Kashmir division because of the prevailing unrest. It said with the result the seats that could have remained vacant after completion of provisional admission shall remain unutilized resulting in loss of resources.

In a statement a spokesman of the Technical Education Department said that the examination of 6th semester polytechnic students could not be held in time, resulting in loss of their precious time and loss of opportunities for seeking admission to higher studies as admissions elsewhere are time-bound.

He said the examination for 2nd and 4th semester could also not be held in time. “The students were given provisional admission to the next semester thereby causing hardships to them and squeezing of training course,” he said.

He said the salaries of employees working under CDPT scheme could not be disbursed and timely UCs could not be submitted to the Government of India. Similarly copies for admission to courses under Prime Ministers Koushal Vikas Yojana were not received.

He said the examinations under NCVT and SCVT could not be held in time in ITIs with the result the candidates will miss out job opportunities and the process of their course certification will also get delayed. “The process for admission under NCVT courses in Kashmir division has also remained incomplete,” he said.

He said the civil works in the department on various projects are on hold and little progress has been achieved in the current financial year because of the disturbances.
