The deceased was identified as Shabir Ahmad Mongu, son of Wali Mohammad Mongu, resident of Sharshali Khrew.
A 30-year-old contractual lecturer was beaten to death by government forces in Khrew area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district late Wednesday night.

Residents alleged that army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police barged into their homes at around 11:30 pm and beat up the inmates, including women.
“Shabir Ahmad was dragged out of home and beaten ruthlessly before home whisked away by the forces,” said a local, who didn’t wish to be named for the fear of being targeted.
“Around 1am, we were asked to collect his (Shabir’s) body.”
Around 60 other people have been injured, reports and witnesses said. They said that mild protests were held in the area between four and five in the afternoon yesterday.
Meanwhile, a senior army officer said they would look into the matter.
