Authorities Friday blocked the internet services to newspapers in Srinagar ahead of Independence day.
Major media houses have the high speed internet facility given by a private company CNS Infitel Services Pvt Ltd Srinagar. “It was blocked today and we were told by service providers that it was done on the instructions of government” said an Editor at one of the newspapers published from Press Enclave Residency Road.
A functionary at CNS said that it was done on the instructions of the government and said it might continue till August 15. He, however, did not name of the official. He said it has been blocked to all customers including some hospitals. Blocking of internet will adversely impact the publishing of newspapers that was banned by government in the middle of July.
It is worth mentioning here that government has again blocked the private mobile services and a very limited access is available to BSNL mobiles and broadband.
