Authorities sealed all roads leading to Mazar-e-Shouhada to prevent a march called by the separatists to pay tribute to resistance leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz. Aziz was shot dead in 2008 during a march called by Kashmir fruit growers to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Authorities today locked down the historic Aali Masjid and sealed the Mazar-e-Shouhada to prevent people from marching towards the martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah.
Separatists have asked people to march to Mazar-e-Shouhada after Zuhr prayers to pay homage to Aziz and others who died in 2008 and 2010 agitations. Meanwhile, curfew continued in Kashmir on 34th consecutive day on Thursday.
