Minister of State for Education, Tourism and Culture Priya Sethi today said that opening of prestigious IIT campus has paved way for promoting Jammu as an education hub of the country .She called upon the students to put in hard toil and excel in the field of their choice and contribute in the development of the nation.
The Minister was speaking at a function organised to felicitate the students who have excelled in the field of academics and other co-curricular activities.
Congratulating the students, the Minister exhorted them to work hard for achieving their desired goals and contribute in the betterment of society and nation. She also lauded the performance of the students who participated in the Gyan Pratiyogita.
While highlighting the initiatives taken by the government, Priya Sethi said that education sector has been accorded high priority and requisite steps are being taken to being taken to develop infrastructure and provide better facilities and avenues to the students so that they excel in every field.
She also expressed her satisfaction over the response of the students for availing benefits under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme and informed that about 3500 students from the state have got admission in various prestigious national level institutes which is an encouraging trend.
Priya Sethi said that education plays an important role in overall development of personality of a student and a well educated citizen is an asset to a nation. She also stressed the need for encouraging extra-curricular activities in schools and nurture the talent of the children so that they create a niche for themselves.
She also mentioned that with the inauguration of IIT in the State, a foundation has been laid for making Jammu an education hub and various other prestigious institutes like IIM, AIIMs are also coming up which will definitely give a new identity to the state.
On the occasion, the Minister gave away mementos to the students who secured positions in class 10th and 12th and also distributed certificates among the candidates who excelled in different sports and extra-curricular activities.
