A complete shutdown was observed in all the major towns of Chenab Valley’s Doda district on Friday by Muslim community over civilian killings in Kashmir.
After several days of peaceful shutdown during the last fortnight, people today came out on the streets after Friday prayers at several places while chanting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans.
The shutdown call was given by Anjuman-e-Isalamia Bhaderwah, Markazi Seerat Committee Doda, Anjuman-e-Isalamia Bhalessa and Masjid Committee Thathri.
During the shutdown shops and other business establishments of Muslim community remained closed at Bhaderwah, Doda, Thathri and Gandoh, however, the government offices and Banks functioned as usual.
After Friday prayers massive protest was also held at Bhaderwah and Doda towns.
At Doda a rally was taken out from Nehru Chowk Doda, and after passing through various markets, while raising pro-Freedom and anti-government slogans culminated near old bus stand.
At Bhaderwah people gathered outside of Markazi Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers against the civilian killings in Ksahmir protesting while raising pro-freedom slogans.
“Ours is a peaceful protest and our simple demand is that Kashmir issue should be solved according to UN resolutions,” said Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah President, Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh.
“The only solution to end turmoil and continuous bloodbath in Kashmir is, that the people sitting at the helm of affairs, in both India and Pakistan should initiate Tripartite talks involving all the stake holders including Kashmiris,” he added.
After protesting for an hour, people gathered inside Markazi Jamia Masjid and held a special prayer for the people who got killed and wounded by the security forces.
Meanwhile, the district administration sounded red alert in entire Doda and extra deployment of para military forces and police was made in an around all the sensitive places.
However, the protest and bandh passed off peacefully in all the major towns of Doda untoward incident was reported from any part, as the last reports came in.
