Srinagar: A day after unidentified gunmen shot dead a shopkeeper from a point blank range at Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Hurriyat (G) said that deceased was an active member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat led by octogenarian Syed Ali Geelani.

On Friday evening unknown gunmen barged into the house of Fayaz Ahmad Rather, 45, son of Mohammad Ramzan Rather of Saidpora village and forcibly took him to a nearby maize field where he was brutally shot resulting into on spot death of Rather.

“Fayaz Ahmad Rather was an active member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat,” a party spokesman told.

Meanwhile, thousands of people today participated in the Nimaz-e-Jinaza of Rather who later held protests and raised anti-India slogans.
