A day after unidentified gunmen shot dead a shopkeeper from a point blank range at Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, people erupted in protest against the killing on Saturday.
According to family, on Friday evening unknown gunmen barged into the house of Fayaz Ahmad Rather, 45, son of Mohammad Ramzan Rather of Saidpora village and forcibly took him to a nearby maize field where he was brutally shot resulting into on spot death of Rather.
The deceased was rushed to district Hospital Baramulla where doctors declared him brought dead.
Eyewitnessed said when deceased, a Bookseller by profession was taken for a funeral, people including men, women and children chanted pro-freedom and anti- India slogans. He was buried amid pro-freedom slogans at a local graveyard.
“I was colouring his hair when he was taken out of a home around 8:45 pm. Later we heard some three gun shots. On searching, the family and locals found Rather in a pool of blood”, said Rather’s Brother.
He demanded that killers must be identified to deliver justice to the family.
The protests were going on the area and youth placed stone and wood logs on Baramulla Kupwara highway near Saidpora to restrict traffic movement following which a heavy contingent of police was deployed to thwart stone pelting in the area.
