People on Friday held protests in Shopian after congregational prayers who were chased away by the huge deployment of police and para-military forces using tear smoke shells resulting in clashes.
Violent protests were going on, on district hospital road when the reports last came in.
Meanwhile, revolutionary songs were being played from many mosque loud speakers in the town.
Police sources said that some people tried to march to the main Chowk who were stopped and the situation was under control.
