Amid massive protests in the Jamia Masjid belt in Nowhatta, a huge gathering assembled in the lawns of the grand mosque and offered funeral prayers in absentia to slain rebel commander Burhan Wani, a video posted on Facebook suggested.
The video indicated that a large number of people have moved out of their homes and are in control of the streets and roads.
Youth converged in Jamia Masjid lawns and held funeral prayers in-absentia for Burhan and his two other slain men. They had lit mashaals too.
Reports from Tral said that thousands of people are on way to slain Wani’s home. They are using all kind of transport to foot the distances.
Reports of protests are received from almost all localities of Srinagar and other places. Most of the city localities, especially in Srinagar witnessed abrupt mob restrictions on roads. They used stones and wooden logs to block access.
A senior police officer confirmed the momentary unrest but insisted that there is no report of any engagement of law and order machinery with the youth.
Mosques are reverberating with slogans in praise of Burhan, the rebel commander.
Burhan who joined militancy in 2010 was heading a nearly 17-member group of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. He was killed by SOG-Army in an operation on Friday along with his two associates.
