Half a dozen villages of Khag tehsil of Budgam district today staged a protest against water shortage.
“We are facing acute water scarcity from past many days and nobody seems bothered to restore our water supply,” said protesting women of Fojipora village.
The traffic movement was stranded for hours together after the protesters blocked Khag-Magam road near Fojipora bus stop.
“We used to fetch water from nearby streams in case water supply was snapped but these streams have also dried up. No one from PHE is taking notice of our woes,” said Muhammad Ashiq of Nassarpora.
Several villages like Nassarpora, Chekh, Fojipora, Sourish, Alahpora and Larikhpora are facing water shortage problem, as according to PHE officials pipelines of their water supply scheme have got damaged at many places due to ongoing road widening process of Khag-Drung road.
Assistant Engineer PHE Sub Division Beerwah Mushtaq Ahmad said that they would restore water supply of these villages within a week.
“Our men are working to restore the damaged spots on this pipeline,”
