Srinagar, June 30: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants have been killed in an encounter with government forces at Newa area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
“Two militants belonged to LeT outfit were killed in the gunfight that raged today morning at Malwari village in Newa”, a police officer told, adding that the search operation in the area is still continuing.
Both the bodies of the militants have been recovered along with as many AK-assault rifles, he said, adding that the bodies have been taken to hospital for post-mortem .
Earlier, police officer said that acting on a tip off about the presence of some militants, army’s 50 RR, CRPF and SOG launched cordon-and-search operation at the Malwari village.
The forces, as such, intensified the cordon-and-search operation and fired several warning shots towards the suspected spot, the officer said, adding that the militants believed to be two to three in number hiding inside the area opened fire, triggering off an encounter.
Soon after the news about the encounter spread in the area, the local youth took to streets and started pelting stones on forces.
When reports last came in, the intense clashes were going on in the area.
