Two minor sisters among three girls drown in Kupwara

In a shocking  incident of its kind, three girls drowned after a tractor they were travelling  in overturned alongside a pond in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late Friday.

A tractor carrying children back home from fields lost its control while negotiating a sharp curve and fell into a pond at Khan Mohalla Bala in Deedikoot village.

“Saleem Khan, who lost two daughters in the mishap, showed exemplary courage and jumped into the pond. But he was successful in rescuing only two girls and could not trace the other three girls”.

“Police, army , locals and Fire and emergency service reached the spot soon after the news spread in the area and later, fished out the bodies of three girls.

They were identified as Safia Saleem (9) and Sabia Saleem (10) – both sisters – and Insha Rashid (12).
