‘50 to 60 militants sneaked in from Pakistan in last five months’
Security forces today claimed to have killed seven militants during three counter-insurgency operations in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The first operation was launched at Warnow village in Lolab area Thursday morning after army and police received information about the presence of heavily armed militants in the village. In the ensuing encounter three militants were killed.
Hours after Lolab encounter, gun battle started at Drugmulla near Kupwara town. After five-hour encounter, three more militants were killed. Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the site of encounter.
Army says one militant was killed in an operation that is underway in Wader forest area of Rajwar.
Infiltration has dramatically gone up this year. Over 50 to 60 militants, mostly from Pakistan, have reportedly infiltrated in the last five months.
However, the forces and police have launched a series of successful operations and several militants have been killed in recent gun battles in north Kashmir.
