Three militants have been killed in an encounter at Lolab forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Earlier, a police officer told that acting on a tip off about the presence of some militants, the army’s 18 RR cordoned off Dobwan forest area in Khurhama today morning.

Soon after, the joint team of forces intensified the cordon-and-search operation; the militants hiding inside the woods opened fire and tried to break the forces cordon. However, the forces engage them in a gunfight, he had said.

Meanwhile, a senior army officer said that the three militants have been killed and the searches in the area are still going on.

“Bodies of all the three militants have been recovered along with as many AK-47-rifles and other war like stores”, the army officer said.

“The militants intercepted today are likely the part of heavily armed group whose one member was killed on June 15 and later the other members managed to gave slip to forces before killing a soldier of 56 RR namely Signalman Ajay Choudhary”, the police officer said.
