Gunfights between militants and forces raged at two separate places in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Thursday.
A police official told GNS that acting on a specific information about the presence of some militants at forest area of Cherwari in Waterkhani, army’s 47 RR and SOG launched cordoned-and-search operation in the area.
Soon after the forces launched cordon in the forest area, the militants opened fire upon them triggering off an encounter. “Three to five militants are believed to be trapped inside the bushes,” said the official. When reports last came in, the intermittent firing was going on.
Meanwhile, another gunfight broke out between militants and government forces at Wadder Bala in Handwara. The gunfight raged this evening while forces on Wednesday late evening had already launched a cordon-and-search operation in a vast area
According to official sources, army’s 21 RR acting on a tip off, cordoned off a small hamlet Mukdam Mohalla in Wadder Bala area of Rajwar at around 9:15 pm yesterday. As the forces conducted searches in the village, a firing incident had occurred in the area.
But till this evening there was no exchange of firing but the gunfire between the two sides once again raged and is underway.
Three militants were killed in an encounter at Khurhama forest area of Lolab today morning with government forces.
