Tral : Residents of the Tral Tehsil in south Kashmir claim that main Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tral has only around dozen working doctors on duty in hospital for the people of 80 plus villages. The shortage of doctors has irked the residents of the area.

“Once the OPD is over at 4 pm, the doctors leave and only one and sometimes two doctors stays in the hospital for emergency,” a resident said.

Besides catering to whole Tral town with a population of around 2 lakh and adjacent villages, the hospital receives patients from towns and villages as far as Awantipora, Tral and Aripal.

The locals said that they had approached EX Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Sameer Matoo when he visited Tral few weeks ago, who had “promised” them to resolve the issue but nothing has been done so far as the officer got transferred after few days of Tral visit.

They demanded that doctors in Hospital should be increased and emergency should have four doctors at least including a lady gynaecologist to handle delivery cases.
