Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta Friday directed the government to respond to the issue of shifting of a proposed engineering college from Kupwara to Ganderbal district following uproar by the Peoples Conference legislator Bashir Ahmad Dar.
The legislator from Kupwara Assembly segment stormed into the Well of the Lower House demanding inquiry into shifting of the proposed college approved under RUMSA in a Project Approval Board meeting held on May 13, 2014.
Dar said that the PAB meeting had allotted Govt College of Engineering and Technology for Kupwara district.
“However, without any reasons or justification, the proposed college was shifted to Ganderbal district,” Dar said.
Angry over the decision, the legislator stormed into the Well and created uproar and demanded that the government should explain as to why the college has been snatched from the border district.
The Legislator was supported by PDP MLA from Tangdhar, Raja Maznoor Ahmad, who also sought reasons for shifting of the college.
Responding to protesting Dar, Speaker directed the government to respond to the agitating MLAs with an appropriate answer.
Dar said that it is “sheer injustice” with thousands of the students of the border district which already lacks modern education avenues.
