Murder convict flees police custody

In a major lapse, a murder convict hailing from Nowgam area of city on Thursday fled police custody from SMHS Hospital where he was brought for medical checkup.

Nazar Muhammad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, resident of Rakhshalina Nowgam was convicted in a case under FIR number 169/2011 under section 302 RPC (registered at Pampore police station).

“Today he was brought to SMHS Hospital for medical checkup from Central Jail. The convict went to toilet to attend nature’s call and closed down the door of the toilet. Inside he managed to break his handcuffs and fled,” the sources said.

Sources said the police have started searches to nab the absconder and also registered a case in this regard. “The probe into whole episode has been started,” they added.
