Police have detained six more youths in connection with the questioning of Anantnag militant attack that left two cops including an officer dead last week.

Official sources said that Special Operation Group (SOG) of police have detained Aqib Sofi, son of Abdul Rashid Sofi, Arif Sofi, son of Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, Shafat Sofi, son of Muhammad Yousuf Sofi, Majid Ali, son of Ali Muhammad Matto, Omar Rasheed, son of Abdul Rasheed Wani and Yamin Yousuf alias Bilal, son of Muhammad Yousuf Dar, all residents of Khudwani in Kulgam district.

Sources said the detained youths are being questioned vis-à-vis Anantnag attack. Earlier, police’s SOG arrested two youths including brother of a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant allegedly involved in the attack. One of the detained youths, Waseem Ahmad Lone, is the brother of Junaid Lone, the LeT militant hailing from Khudwani.

Pertinently, pictures and video of two persons, holding AK 47 rifles, firing bullets and chanting ‘Allah-u-Akbar’ slogans near attack spot along Khanabal-Pahalgam Road near Anantnag Bus Stand went viral Saturday on social networking sites and messaging application, whatsapp.

With the help of footage, police managed to identify these militants as Junaid Ahmad Lone of Khudwani Kulgam and Ali, who is believed to be a non-local. Both are allegedly believed to be involved in the killings. Though nothing is known about Ali, but it is being said that Junaid left his home last year to join militant ranks when he was 18.
