Use of Polythene will soon be a cognizable offence: Govt

Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice Abdul Haq today informed that the Government is coming up with a legislation to make use of Polyethene a cognizable offence.

Replying to a question of S. Charanjeet Singh, the Minister informed that under ‘My Village, My World’ campaign Rural Development Department (RDD) has launched a campaign against use of Polyethene thereby giving powers to officials at BDO level to impose fine on people for using it.

The Minister informed that to eradicate the menace of Polyethene in toto, the Forest Ministry will be soon coming up with a legislation to make the use of Polyethene a cognizable offence. He said the RDD is assisting the Forest Ministry in the same and will soon come up with the relevant legislation.

Abdul Haq further informed that RDD is implementing various Centrally Sponsored Schemes including MGNREGA, Swach Bharat Mission (SBM), IAY, IWMP, NRLM, and    14th FC for the growth and development of rural areas.

Abdul Haq said that the Department is undertaking the construction of tractor roads, culverts, Foot bridges, Foot Paths, lanes and drains in the rural areas within the available funds. He said the electrification of the villages is being carried out by PDD within the available resources. He said small drains and garbage channels are constructed under various schemes of the department, adding that the sewage system in rural areas has not been taken in hand by the department because it requires management, technical know-how and sufficient funds.
