Tourist Police books sledge owners for overcharging

Department of Tourism Kashmir Tuesday took a swift action against sledge owners of Kangan area of District Ganderbal who had fleeced and harassed a tourist Mahendra Singh of Haryana at tourist resort Sonamarg on June 6, 2016. Mahendra Singh filed complaint with Tourist Department about being overcharged by sledge owners at tourist resort Sonamarg.

The Tourism Department pressed Tourist police into action who arrested main accused Mushtaq Ahmad Malik of Kangan. He was fined with Rs 2600 and booked under Tourist Trade Act.  The police has found Showkat Ahmad Parray and Aijaz Ahmad Raina accused of overcharging the tourist. Tourist police is also on a look out of other two accused in overcharging and resorting to harassment.

The Department of Tourism has deposited the amount of Rs 2600 into the account of the tourist who has also been informed about the action taken against the sledge owners.

The Department has issued strict warning to the service providers of stern action if they are found involved in cheating, harassment or   overcharging. The department has also urged the tourists and service providers to report any such bad practice to the concerned tourist police for swift action.
