Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today demanded immediate removal of Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman from his position who is facing serious criminal charges.
Ridiculing his appointment as Director Health, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said it is unfortunate that instead of sacking the tainted official, he was rewarded for committing criminal offence.
On one hand government claims of clean administration, on the other tainted officials are promoted and given plump postings.
This is hiatus between words and actions.
How can you post a person to head a crucial department who is involved in grave charges?
By this way you are sending a wrong signal that criminals are being shielded and promoted and they have patronage at highest level.
He faces charges of corruption and molestation; the cases are pending in State Vigilance Organization (SVO) and courts.
Despite his involvement, he continued with his position and influenced SVO which is responsible for slackness of his case.
He threatened victim of dire consequences to withdraw the case against him.
He misused his position and got clean chit from the department and closed the case in the concerned police station.
But the victim despite harassment went to court for justice.
He is involved in supply of 2 lakh tablets of fake drug ‘maximizin’ to government hospitals which were consumed by patients.
His role in the molestation case of former health minister needs to be probed, as earlier demanded by DAK.
It was only after public outcry that last year he was attached but when the things settled he was recalled.
We appeal Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and oust the tainted official so that people repose trust in the system.
Media has played a vital role in exposing the wrong doings of this tainted official which led to his ouster but we are surprised at their silence now when he is called back.
We expect media at this time also to be responsible as it is not only their responsibility but duty to safeguard the institutions which are being eroded by these tainted officials.
