Police in south Kashmir have detained two persons including brother of a militant in connection with an attack on Saturday last week at Anantnag that left two cops including an officer dead.
Official sources said that police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) during a raid picked up two youths from their respective houses at Khudwani area of Kulgam district.
The detained youths have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone and Parvez Ahmad Mattoo. Both the persons were initially taken to SOG camp Kulgam where from later they were handed over to Cargo Srinagar for further questioning, the sources said.
Parvez Ahmad Matoo, one of the two detained persons, is the brother of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, Junaid Ahmad. Pertinently, pictures and video of two persons, holding AK 47 rifles, firing bullets and chanting ‘Allah-u-Akbar’ slogans near attack spot along Khanabal-Pahalgam Road near Anantnag Bus Stand went viral Saturday on social networking sites and messaging application, whatsapp.
With the help of footage, police managed to identify these militants as Junaid Ahmad Lone of Khudwani Kulgam and Ali, who is believed to be a non-local. Both are allegedly believed to be involved in the killings. Though nothing is known about Ali, but it is being said that Junaid left his home last year to join militant ranks when he was 18.
A senior police officer meanwhile confirmed the detentions and said the duo is being questioned with regard to the Anantnag attack. “They are being questioned,” he added.
