Srinagar: K.K Sharma, DG BSF, accompanied by  Arun Kumar, ADG BSF, Western Command,  Aditya Mishra, IG BSF (Int.) Delhi, and  Vikash Chandra, IG BSF Kashmir, called on Governor N.N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor and the DG discussed the obtaining security scenario in the State, particularly in the aftermath of yesterday’s ambush on the BSF convoy at Bijbehara.
The Governor conveyed his grief to the DG on the loss of three BSF personnel in yesterday’s attack and wished speedy recovery to those who have been injured.
‘Militant may target Amarnath yatra’
Admitting that there are inputs that militants can target the Amarnath yatra, commencing from July 2, Director General of Border Security Force K K Sharma today expressed hope that the pilgrimage will be peaceful.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony on mortal remains of three BSF personnel killed in yesterday’s militants attack at Bijbehara, he said, “there are intelligence inputs that militants are planning to target Amarnath yatra.”
“As you know BSF is also involved in providing security to pilgrims during the yatra, I assure you that this year too the pilgrimage will be peaceful,” he added. Mr Sharma said, security arrangements for the success of the yatra have already been finalised.
He said, “there is concentration on the border and attempts are being made from Pakistan-administered-Kashmir (PaK) to send militants into this side.” But, he said forces are already on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt from across the Line of Control (LoC).
BJP demands Pak’s condemnation in assembly
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs on Saturday protested the killing of Border Security Force (BSF) troopers by the militants and demanded the Jammu and Kashmir assembly to pass a resolution condemning Pakistan and militants.
Led by MLA Ravinder Raina, the BJP MLAs staged a protest inside state legislative assembly demanding condemnation of Pakistan and terrorists by the house.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta told the BJP MLAs that the house shares the grief of the bereaved families and expresses sympathy with them.
Independent MLA from Langate constituency Engineer Rashid said the condemnation should not be restricted to acts of ‘terrorism’ by non-state actors only and when security forces violate human rights, condemnation should be universal.
Three BSF troopers were killed and seven injured when militants attacked a BSF convoy in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district on Friday.
