Transfer of technology from Spain to give boost to the production of saffron citreous fruits and aromatic plants.
Srinagar: Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Spain Mr. Vikram Misra today called on Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and discussed the saffron and olive production and plantation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Ambassador said that while Spain produces 25 to 30 kilogram per hectare saffron, the picture is not that good in saffron producing areas of Kashmir where production is 2.5 to 4 kgs. He pointed out that there is a scope for transfer of technology from Spain to give boost to the production of saffron citreous fruits and aromatic plants.
The Ambassador also pointed out that the control atmosphere technology that is being used in Spain is fine art and can be replicated in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
It was proposed that a delegation of experts from SKAUST will visit Spain to know and seek the possibilities for the betterment of agriculture in the State. The Minister assured the Ambassador that the vision of former Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in developing agriculture on modern and scientific lines would be fulfilled.
