Srinagar: Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari today, replying to a question of Master Noor Hussain, informed the House that the government is committed to promote Urdu language in the State, saying that as Urdu being the official language of the state various steps are underway to propagate it.
The Minister informed that under Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, it has been made mandatory to prepare and maintain revenue record in Urdu language only, which is being implemented in letter and spirit.
The Minister further informed the House that under the Jammu and Kashmir Revenue (Subordinate) Services Recruitment Rules, the revenue field functionaries i.e Patwaris and Naib Tehsildars are supposed to possess knowledge of Urdu for purposes of direct recruitment and consequently the promotee officials are also having knowledge of Urdu language. The process of digitization of land records is also done in Urdu format as all land records are recorded in Urdu language, he maintained.
