SHOPIAN: A Disaster and Natural calamities awareness camp was held at Town Hall Shopian here today.

Speaking on the occasion District Development Commissioner who was chief guest on the occasion, urged the participants to adhere to the instructions given during the awareness programme by the experts.

He said the aim of organizing such programmes is to acquaint the public in general and youth in particular about the disaster management in order to minimize the loss of human lives and property during the disaster if any.

On the occasion experts delivered detailed lectures on different measures to be adopted for safeguarding life and property.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, MO, ARTO and other allied Officers of the district administration were also present in the awareness camp.

Pertinently, a major earthquake, measuring 8 or greater, could strike Jammu and Kashmir soon, US scientists have warned.

This earthquake could endanger the lives of as many as a million people, a new geologic mapping in the Himalayan mountains has suggested.
