Boy jumps into Jehlum to save his sister, both got drowned

In a tragic accident in Sopore on Thursday two kids got drowned into Jhelum River this afternoon.

According to a Varmul Post report, the drowned minors have been identified as Falak (8), daughter of Abdul Majeed Shiekh of Shahabad slipped into the Jhelum.

His brother, Rashid (12) jumped into the river to save her sister who to drowned.

The incident happened around 1 PM today.

The bodies have not been recovered so far.

A police officer from the town said they have requisitioned the Navy divers from Watlub which have barely reached the spot. “The water level is too high and only professionals can help,” the officer said.

The minor baby, police said, was on the banks of the river that she sliped into it. “It was a pure mishap,” he said.
