SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Fort Festival saw an overwhelming response today as the participants wearing traditional turbans walked through the interiors of the old city in Srinagar as part of its heritage walk program.

The 3-day festival began yesterday with Sufiyana Musial Performance at Hari Parbat Fort in downtown.

Today, scores of youth from downtown including senior citizens wearing turban participated in the heritage walk which began from historic Badamwari at Rainawari. The walk was flagged off by Deputy Director Tourism Kashmir (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor.

The participants walked through downtown’s famous routes where from one could get to visit centuries’ old Jama Masjid, Ziyarat Naqshband Sahib, Budshah Tomb, Ziyarat of Shah-i-Hamadan also known as Khankah-i- Moula, besides river Jhelum, old bridges including Zaina Kadal, Fateh Kadal. This route in the downtown is being promoted by the tourism department for heritage walks as most of the heritage buildings fall enroute.

As part of the festival, painting and heritage photo exhibition was also held at Hari Parbat Fort. The artists displayed their talent through paintings and photographs.

Speaking on the occasion, Peerzada Zahoor said the festival is an attempt to revive heritage walks in downtown.

“We have many historical buildings, shrines, temples, monuments in Srinagar’s old city. Many foreigners wish to see such old structure and take pictures. This heritage walk will promote these places and attract tourists, he said.
The Kashmir Fort Festival 2016 will culminate tomorrow which will see Sufiyana Musical performance, photo and painting competitions on heritage themes.
