Srinagar: Stressing on a need for immediate disbursement of pending monetary relief in favour of flood sufferers of September 2014, former minister and MLA Amirakadal Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday urged the administration to expedite disposal of such cases without any further delay.

Addressing a party convention at Chanapora, Bukhari said though a significant number of flood affected families have received the monetary relief but there are still a large number of families who move from pillar to post for the disbursement of relief in their favour.

“A number of families who have received part payment still await sanction even after their cases were re-verified for severity of damages caused to their houses due to devastating floods in 2014. The matter needs to be accorded a serious consideration at the highest level,” he observed.

He also laid impetus on various insurance companies to dispose of long pending insurance claims of flood affected households and traders that are still awaiting sanction.

The former minister also expressed his concern with regard to delay in issuance of permissions to flood affected families for re-construction, repair or renovation of their flood hit houses.  “Timber should be also made available at SFC for immediate issuance in favour of the flood hit families,” he demanded.

While taking an appraisal of the ongoing works of restoration and up-gradation of infrastructure in Chanpora Ward of Zone Amirakadal, Bukhari said that various proposals with regard to improvement in roads sector, LT/HT network, drainage, CAPD, health and education sectors have already been submitted to the concerned department and efforts are on to get these projects approved for a visible change on the ground.

Informing the convention about various proposals mooted out by his office, Bukhari said that the R&B is in process of acquisition of land at Gousia Colony for construction of road that will connect the colony with its adjacent area in Rose Lane. He said proposal for installation of dewatering station at Madinabagh Chanpora, upgradation of dewatering station at Takeya Mohalla Chanpora, augmentation of road surface from Gurdwara upto Masjid-e-Ibrahim Housing Colony Chanpora and construction/improvement of roads surfaces of left out links in ward Chanpora  have already  been submitted and are under active consideration for being taken up during the current fiscal.

He assured the convention that there will be a marked improvement in all sectors including drainage, roads, health-care, education, power and recreation in areas like Chak-e-Methan, Gulshan Nagar, Lal Nagar, Umar Colony Lal Nagar and its adjacent areas in coming days.

“Various schemes have been devised and proposed by us with regard to infrastructural development and some of them have already been taken up in the constituency and particularly in Chanpora area. More schemes are in pipeline to augment and bridge the infrastructural gap in this ward,” he said.

The convention was attended by all ward heads of the constituency including Mohammad Ashraf Dar party Zone President Amirakadal. PDP leader Abdul Hamid Kosheen also attended the convention.

While taking stock of Party’s membership drive in Chanpora ward, Bukhari asked the party cadres to gear up and take measures to reach out to the people and strengthen the party at the grass roots.
