Police has booked a medical student for sacrilegious act at SKIMS Bemina in outskirts of Srinagar city.
Official sources told news agency GNS that a photo appeared on the facebook account of an MBBS 5th semester student namely Lalit Thapa that hurt the religious sentiments of Muslim students.
Soon after the incident, a minor protest erupted at the medical college, however, the timely action by the authorities including police and medical college administration who immediately ordered separate probes in to the matter pacified the situation.
“A photograph showing (Qaba Sharief with picture of pig above it) appeared on the facebook account of the medical student last week”, sources said.
A police official while confirming the incident told GNS that the student has been booked under FIR No. 102/2016 under RPC sections of 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 505/B (Statements conducing to public mischief).
“A SIT has been already formed to probe whether the medical student has intentionally uploaded the picture on his FB account or someone had hacked his account as claimed by him”, the officer said.
The officer said that while the student has been taken into preventive custody, police was awaiting expert report on the matter.
